Round 7 Preview – Powerful Wests come to UWA

THE UWA Torpedoes host their first Friday night clash at UWA Aquatic Centre for the season against UNSW Wests in Round 7 of the OVO Australian Water Polo League ahead of a return clash on Sunday.

Coming off the two games against the Balmain Tigers last weekend, the Torpedoes are back home again for two more matches in Round 7 against a Sydney opponent.

This time it’s UNSW Wests coming to town and the Friday night action will take place at UWA Aquatic Centre.

The women’s contest between the Torpedoes and Killer Whales will begin at 6.30pm before UWA’s men then take on the Magpies from 8pm.

Sunday morning’s games will be played at HBF Stadium with the women’s game to begin at 10am and the men’s encounter starting at 11.30am.

The results after Round 6 leave the Torpedoes still battling for a finals position in the women’s competition. UWA currently sits in sixth position with four wins and six losses from their 10 matches played.

As far as the men’s competition is concerned, the youthful Torpedoes are still stuck on the two wins for the season which came against the Cronulla Sharks on their Sydney road trip back in Round 2 from 10 matches.

This weekend sees UNSW Wests make the trip to Perth for the run of four games in four days against the WA-based teams in what should be an eventful visit.

The UNSW Wests Killer Whales are the defending champions in the women’s competition and have started the 2019 season strongly with a 7-2 record as they head over for the games against the Torpedoes who are desperate to play finals in 2019.

It’s a strong UNSW Wests Magpies team as well in the men’s competition. They are undefeated after nine matches in 2019 and have a strong outfit that includes former Torpedoes star Andrew Ford.

So far this season, Nicolas Constantin-Bicari has scored 31 goals in nine games for the Magpies with Richie Campbell having also scored 17, Ford 17, Lachlan Hollis 15, Charlie Negus 10 and Jarrod Gilchrist 10.
