Sixth straight win for UWA men after tough weekend v Breakers

THE UWA Torpedoes men recorded a sixth straight National Water Polo League victory at UWA Aquatic Centre on Saturday night while the women couldn’t quite overcome a quality Queensland Breakers line-up.

The weekend’s action with the Breakers concluded on Saturday night at UWA Aquatic Centre with Queensland winning the women’s encounter 16-4.

Led by captain-coach Bronwen Knox, they proved too strong for the young Torpedoes team after a 10-7 victory also on Thursday night.

It was then time for the men’s encounter and in what was another intense and physical contest, UWA was able to pull away and score the 10-5 victory over the Breakers. [Read more…]

UWA women go down fighting, men overcome tough Breakers outfit

THE UWA Torpedoes women fought back bravely in the second half on Thursday night before the men won a fifth straight match to prevail in a hotly contested battle with the Queensland Breakers at UWA Aquatic Centre.

Round 9 of the 2017 National Water Polo League season began at UWA Aquatic Centre on Thursday night with the Torpedoes hosting the Breakers.

Proceedings got underway with the women’s contest and that saw the Torpedoes fight hard in the second half, but ultimately with captain-coach Bronwen Knox scoring four goals, the Breakers ended up winning 10-7. [Read more…]

Double Sunday win for Torpedoes over Hurricanes

FOR the first time in the 2017 National Water Polo League season, the UWA Torpedoes have scored two wins at UWA Aquatic Centre with the men’s and women’s teams recording victories over the Hunter Hurricanes on Sunday.

The Torpedoes hosted the Hurricanes firstly on Friday night with the women looking on target for a breakthrough victory until Hunter scored the last two goals to end up winning 8-7.

It was another thriller on Sunday morning between the Torpedoes and Hurricanes women, but this time it was UWA who prevailed to record the 7-6 victory. [Read more…]

Torpedoes men keep winning, women lose in heartbreaking style

THE UWA Torpedoes men won a third consecutive National Water Polo League match at UWA Aquatic Centre on Friday night while the women went down in heartbreaking fashion to the Hunter Hurricanes.

It is Round 8 of the NWPL and the second straight weekend that the Torpedoes are at home following playing the opening 11 games of the season on the road.

Last weekend it was the Balmain Tigers coming to UWA, and this weekend it’s the Hunter Hurricanes with the first games being played on Friday night. [Read more…]

UWA women go down fighting, men beat Balmain again

THE UWA Torpedoes have completed their first home weekend of the National Water Polo League season with the women going down fighting to Balmain but the defending champion men prevailed again over the Tigers at UWA Aquatic Centre.

Following playing the opening 11 games of the 2017 NWPL season away from home, this weekend was the first time the Torpedoes got to play in front of their home fans at UWA Aquatic Centre.

It got underway on Thursday night against the University of Technology Sydney Balmain Tigers, with the visitors beating the Torpedoes in the women’s contest 10-5.

The Torpedoes men then graced their home pool for the first time since winning last year’s NWPL premiership and celebrated in winning style beating the Tigers 8-4. [Read more…]

Torpedoes men impress in home opening win

THE UWA Torpedoes belatedly played their first home games of the 2017 National Water Polo League season on Thursday night with the women fighting hard but coming up short against the UTS Balmain Tigers while the defending champion men impressed in a strong win.

The Torpedoes opened the 2017 NWPL season with 11 games on the road before hitting UWA Aquatic Centre for the first time on Thursday night.

UWA’s Sydney road trip ends with losses to Cronulla

THE UWA Torpedoes’ difficult six-game, six-day road trip to Sydney that coincided with a scorching heatwave ended on Sunday with losses at the hands of the Cronulla Sharks.

The Torpedoes undertook the most challenging week of any National Water Polo League season heading to Sydney for the six games in six days before now returning to Perth to play the last 11 matches of the campaign at UWA Aquatic Centre.

On Sunday at Sutherland Leisure Centre, the Cronulla Sharks women beat the UWA Torpedoes 15-1 before the home team also defeated the visitors in the men’s contest 7-5. [Read more…]

Torpedoes men score thrilling win in penalty shootout

THE UWA Torpedoes men returned to the winner’s list in the National Water Polo League in a thriller that went to the penalty shootout against the Sydney University Lions on Saturday.

It was the second time the Torpedoes have headed to Peter Montgomery Pool this week as part of the Sydney road trip.

Saturday’s action got underway with the women’s contest and that saw the Sydney Uni Lions beat the Torpedoes 17-5.

Then in the men’s clash, the two teams couldn’t be separated after four quarters with scores locked away at 8-8. [Read more…]

Torpedoes fall to Sharks as part of Sydney road trip

THE UWA Torpedoes difficult road trip to Sydney continued on Thursday night with the men’s and women’s teams coming up short against the Cronulla Sharks.

The Torpedoes took on the Sharks at Sutherland Leisure Centre in the third of six games on the road in Sydney this week, but it didn’t prove a night to remember for the visitors.

The women’s contest started proceedings with the Sharks beating the Torpedoes 13-3 before in the men’s affair, it was again Cronulla winning 12-5 over UWA. [Read more…]

UWA men and women come up short against Sydney Uni

FOR the first time this National Water Polo League season, the UWA Torpedoes women and men have lost on the same day with both going down to the Sydney University Lions at Peter Montgomery Pool on Wednesday night.

It was the second night of the Torpedoes’ six-game, six-day road trip to Sydney and the Lions proved too good in their home pool.

The night started with the women’s contest and that saw reigning premier Sydney Uni take out the 12-6 victory over the Torpedoes. It was a third straight loss for UWA.

The men’s contest was then next up with the defending champion Torpedoes out to remain unbeaten this season, but it wasn’t to be. The Lions took out the 10-4 victory over the Torpedoes. [Read more…]
