UWA’s Sydney road trip ends with losses to Cronulla

THE UWA Torpedoes’ difficult six-game, six-day road trip to Sydney that coincided with a scorching heatwave ended on Sunday with losses at the hands of the Cronulla Sharks.

The Torpedoes undertook the most challenging week of any National Water Polo League season heading to Sydney for the six games in six days before now returning to Perth to play the last 11 matches of the campaign at UWA Aquatic Centre.

On Sunday at Sutherland Leisure Centre, the Cronulla Sharks women beat the UWA Torpedoes 15-1 before the home team also defeated the visitors in the men’s contest 7-5. [Read more…]

Torpedoes men score thrilling win in penalty shootout

THE UWA Torpedoes men returned to the winner’s list in the National Water Polo League in a thriller that went to the penalty shootout against the Sydney University Lions on Saturday.

It was the second time the Torpedoes have headed to Peter Montgomery Pool this week as part of the Sydney road trip.

Saturday’s action got underway with the women’s contest and that saw the Sydney Uni Lions beat the Torpedoes 17-5.

Then in the men’s clash, the two teams couldn’t be separated after four quarters with scores locked away at 8-8. [Read more…]

Torpedoes fall to Sharks as part of Sydney road trip

THE UWA Torpedoes difficult road trip to Sydney continued on Thursday night with the men’s and women’s teams coming up short against the Cronulla Sharks.

The Torpedoes took on the Sharks at Sutherland Leisure Centre in the third of six games on the road in Sydney this week, but it didn’t prove a night to remember for the visitors.

The women’s contest started proceedings with the Sharks beating the Torpedoes 13-3 before in the men’s affair, it was again Cronulla winning 12-5 over UWA. [Read more…]

UWA men and women come up short against Sydney Uni

FOR the first time this National Water Polo League season, the UWA Torpedoes women and men have lost on the same day with both going down to the Sydney University Lions at Peter Montgomery Pool on Wednesday night.

It was the second night of the Torpedoes’ six-game, six-day road trip to Sydney and the Lions proved too good in their home pool.

The night started with the women’s contest and that saw reigning premier Sydney Uni take out the 12-6 victory over the Torpedoes. It was a third straight loss for UWA.

The men’s contest was then next up with the defending champion Torpedoes out to remain unbeaten this season, but it wasn’t to be. The Lions took out the 10-4 victory over the Torpedoes. [Read more…]

Torpedoes women go down to Drummoyne but men stay unbeaten

THE UWA Torpedoes have opened their Sydney trip this week with the men continuing their unbeaten start to the National Water Polo League season beating the Drummoyne Devils while the women lost a second straight match.

It was always going to be a challenging start to the six-game, six-day tour for the Torpedoes with them flying from Perth to Sydney on Tuesday, and having to play that evening at Drummoyne Swimming Pool.

The evening’s action got underway with the women’s contest and that saw the Drummoyne Devils prevail 16-6 to see the Torpedoes slip to a 4-2 record on the season. [Read more…]

Torpedoes split the Western Derby with Fremantle

THE UWA Torpedoes took on Fremantle in the first western derby of 2017 at Bicton Pool on Saturday night with the women going down to the Marlins while the defending champion men remained unbeaten proving too good for the Mariners.

The Torpedoes women and men started the 2017 National Water Polo League season with four victories apiece on the road firstly with two against the Adelaide Jets, and then two against the Water Polo Australia Barbarians.

Following those Round 1 results, UWA had Round 2 off to prepare for the western derby battles with Fremantle at Bicton Pool on Saturday night. [Read more…]

Torpedoes unbeaten after eight road games in four days

THE UWA Torpedoes completed their four-day road trip to open the National Water Polo League 2017 season and both the women’s and men’s teams remained unbeaten recording two more wins over the Barbarians at Kew’s Xavier College on Sunday.

The Torpedoes season got underway on Thursday and Friday evenings in Adelaide where the women’s and men’s teams won each of their matches against the Jets at The Hangar in impressive fashion.

It was then on to Melbourne where the Torpedoes were originally meant to play the Victorian Seals. Those plans changed when they withdrew from the NWPL for 2017 on Wednesday, but Water Polo Australia helped organise a Barbarians team that will play in their place for the season.

That saw the Torpedoes take them on at Xavier College on Saturday again with both UWA teams recording wins.

It was back to the same venue on Sunday morning with the women opening proceedings with a 12-7 victory over the Barbarians. The Torpedoes men then completed the unbeaten road trip to start the season beating the Barbarians 11-8. [Read more…]

Torpedoes remain unbeaten after wins in Melbourne

C2HBR7RVIAA8ad0_1THE UWA Torpedoes took their National Water Polo League show on the road to Melbourne on Saturday and both the men’s and women’s teams continued their unbeaten starts to 2017 with wins over the Barbarians at Xavier College in Kew.

The Torpedoes opened their season with games against the Adelaide Jets at The Hangar on Thursday and Friday evenings. Both the UWA women’s and men’s teams came away with victories in all four encounters leaving them undefeated heading to Melbourne.

The weekend games were originally fixtured to be against the Victorian Seals at the Melbourne Spots & Aquatic Centre. But with the Seals withdrawing from the NWPL on Wednesday, they have now been replaced by a Water Polo Australia-backed Barbarians team.

That saw the Torpedoes do battle with them on Saturday at Kew’s Xavier College.

The Torpedoes went on to remain unbeaten with the women beating the Barbarians 8-7 before the men went on to record the 15-10 victory. [Read more…]

Double road win for Torpedoes in Adelaide

15965988_10154081701095966_2305052935990906072_nBOTH UWA Torpedoes women’s and men’s teams have opened the 2017 National Water Polo League in impressive fashion on the road recording wins over the Adelaide Jets at the South Australian Aquatic and Leisure Centre on Thursday night.

The Torpedoes might have a challenging opening to the 2017 season with the opening 11 matches all on the road starting with the four games in the opening round starting with two in Adelaide and two in Melbourne.

Things got off to the perfect start on Thursday night with the women’s match beginning proceedings at The Hangar. The Torpedoes went on to beat the Jets 9-7.

It was then on to the men’s contest for the evening with the Torpedoes beginning their premiership defence in style as UWA ran out 13-2 victors. [Read more…]
